Nestled in the Berkshires, the 105,000 sq.ft. Williams College Wachenheim Science Center is home to many multi-disciplinary programs. Integrating sustainable solutions was at the top of the project design brief.
With multiple gathering spaces, including two large atria, the building was designed to encourage social interaction. Architecture is revealed by meticulous and thoughtfully crafted lighting details.
A visually silent ceiling gives the illusion that the lighting is naturally provided. Post-sunset, atria wooden ceiling panels are enhanced by fixtures integrated into curtain wall mullions revealing a compelling exterior view “lantern effect.”
The lighting provides an overall embrace of a living, breathing building.
